There are several news. After a long search we found an apartment in Studio City- where I plan to live for 12 months -or until I buy a mansion. My friend and co-tenant Nikola was considering Woodland Hills, but eventually made a decision that considering all the nuances of time and space, is relatively optimal.
But that’s not the only move. Also the blog will be moving soon away from Dinahosting… There are several reasons to leave Dinahosting. Among them: the price, the poor security and limited flexibility (developing linux executables was hell, having to link staticly everything).
Although I will try to make a seamless transition, it may not be perfect- so do not be surprised if something goes wrong these days.
(to be expanded)
(and I will keep updating the blog retrospectively- [repetitive promise to self])

D The shame of being oblivious

Let’s picture an imaginary customer from Ralph’s. She is a slim -though not very attractive- redhead. She has a somewhat peculiar slavic accent.

Let’s imagine this woman in one of those days when she’s a bit away. Oblivious, unable to do things right. She enters Ralph’s, and decides to use a self-scan machine. Everything’s swift, she’s buying some beers, so the associate close to her approves the operation. She, almost unwillingly, asks for $60 cashback. Suddenly, a friend of her appears, and they start talking. She leaves, forgetting to take the money.

Some hours later, she realises what happened. A reaction time close to Homer’s in that Simpsons episode in which he’s called slow. Late at night, she rushes to Ralph’s, knowing that she won’t be able to sleep if she’s unable to find a solution -she has a diagnosed OCD. She’s also pregnant and worried that her child would have her disorders. She doesn’t even know if that store is even open. She drives to the store, to see it open. There’s no manager though, so she’s told to get there the next day when they may be able to check the cameras’ data.

And that she does, to no avail. The manager -whose name may be Al- is not rude nor specially nice. He just doesn’t care, and only tries to get rid of her. Nothing can be done -though she has heard of similar instances in which they checked the cameras and returned the money.

She knew it was her fault -but at the same time, she couldn’t avoid being disappointed at Ralph’s. She lost all belief in the ‘valued customer’ BS. She stopped buying at Ralph’s. In the end, after a while, she realised that she didn’t like Ralph’s at all, when compared to other places (i.e. TJ). Her major complains would have been the inflated prices (she grew used to look just at the tags with yellow background) and the bad quality of fruit and vegetables.

Her frustation remained though, intact, while she expected it to fade away- and it wasn’t the $60, it was the shame of being oblivious.

D The truth about Le Shack

After receiving thousands of letters from fans (none) asking for the list of theaters that show “Le Shack”, we have a confession to make. Let it be an official statement:
“It wasn’t real. ‘Le Shack’ is just an universe created by a collective imagination -thus it trascends any imaginable product or film.”

Anyway, after realising the wide success of the promotional campaign, we’ll be able to create and edit some footage just to get rich. It’ll be ready on December the 12th, 2012.

I woke up considering the option of sleeping one more night in a BLM area (possibly the KCM campground). But after driving for a while that would have left me too many hours with nothing to do in an area where every breath you take can degrade your health easily. Actually I was surprised about how easy is to actually feel the smog in the Bakersfield area.
I ended up driving back to Newbury Park -with a small stop in Ojai.
And there I met Mike and Jacquie, again.

Once again. I avoided the quickest route (395 South). Instead, I went West, crossing the Sequoia National Forest. I considered sleeping in Chimney Creek but it was closed. Long Valley Campground seemed more promising but its gravel road deterred me from doing so after a while. So I kept driving -with some doubts regarding the pass being possibly closed. It wasn’t, although I didn’t expect that much elevation.
It became obviously noticeable that I was getting closer to denser areas (in terms of human population). All along the river that pours into the Lake Isabella, I found no place that satisfied my (increasingly exquisite) demands for spending the night. I just kept on driving.
I ended up in “Keyesville SRMA” -a place where I found the peace I was seeking. Peace only interrupted by some freak that was making sure that I wasn’t a golddigger.

D Zabriskie Point, Death Valley, Wildrose tu

Another lonely day. I woke up -without hair- in the Grand Canyon area- Kaibab National Forest. Moved quick, westbound, crossed Fredonia.
The attempts to find an original route weren’t extremely successful. By doing so I had the chance to discover new places… but I couldn’t avoid passing through Las Vegas. Somehow, I wanted to pass through Caliente and the north perimeter of the huge military area. I desisted after having to backtrack twice because of the GPS having faulty information.
After Las Vegas, I went to Death Valley: left in Amargosa- where the last brothel I will see that day was. The temperature was tolerable. Slept in Wildrose -where only the wind talked. The wind and the drunkards that arrived later.
Actually they were teenagers and weren’t drunk.
Maybe they were older than that.

I almost didn’t drive. Just to get closer to the Canyon. I think I didn’t see anybody that day. Maybe a car or two. I hiked, watched some movies and tried to shoot an HDR time-lapse of the sunset in the Canyon. Sadly, the JJC remote shutter proved itself useless- it didn’t send one of the signals. Frustration over a chinese product led me to use another chinese product.
Cut to #0. Fade out.

D Page’s second disappointment, refuge in Kaibab: Road 461 tu

No paranormal activity was registered the night before. I went to Bruce Canyon. After a banana milkshake, I kept going.
Looking back. Definitely, Utah’s route 12 is impressive.
I went to Page. Bought something there. My plan was to go to Lone Rock and spend a few days there. Now that I had solar panels, I just had to find a place where I could be comfortable, socialize, and be productive.
My first time in Lone Rock (2009) was great. I cherished that memory, trying to relive it. But sadly Lone Rock disappointed me. Once again. This time I had the “America the Beautiful” pass, so it wasn’t about entering or not.
It was mainly about the quality of the water. Too many boats, throwing shit in the water. Sadly, that shit accumulated in the beach.
I planned to stay days. In ten minutes, I was gone.
I drove to Kaibab -my shelter. Once again.
